Transformation

Transformation - the very word has a power and life of its own. If we open our eyes, we probably see transformation in some form almost daily.

The immediate image that springs to mind is Stokesay Castle on certain late
afternoons /early evenings when all the visitors are homeward bound and peace and
solitude return. From my childhood I have never tired of the unique ancient aura of the castle and its setting, but, as I glance out of the window, there it is again - this glorious and breathtaking sight as the sun sinks in the west. The entire castle is incandescent, as if lit from within, with a saffron, rosy glow and the surrounding hills are suffused with this same heavenly light. I call excitedly to my husband John to come and share this vision, as a minute later it would have dimmed or disappeared. I see this as a very special gift and want to share the experience with those close to me or all who will treasure its beauty.

On other days of more rain than shine, the sudden splendour of a rainbow over the hillside, or even a double rainbow, transcending all to light and shadow, green and gold, is a sight to gladden the heart and lift the spirits, especially when we remember God’s promise to Noah and all the earth.

Nights there are when the stark silhouette of the castle, inky black against the
skyline, is all at once dappled in silver as the moon sails, high and free, from the clouds. All that was shrouded in mood and gloom is now magic.
